Why do I need Groundcare training?

There are a wide range of mowers and other groundcare equipment in use. If used correctly and maintained properly groundcare equipment should pose very little risk to the operator or to people around the machine. But accidents do happen, often for very simple reasons.

The aim of the LANTRA Awards groundcare courses is to provide operators, both new and experienced, with an insight into safety awareness and risk assessment in order to reduce the likelihood of an accident occurring. Operator training is a legal requirement.

The Courses

The courses are grouped under the following headings:

Lawn Mowers

  • Ride-on Mowers
  • Pedestrian Mowers

Tractors

  • Driving and Maintenance
  • Separate course available for use of any implements

Pesticides

  • PA1
  • PA2
  • PA6 
  • NPTC assessments
  • 2-day BASIS storekeeper's course also available for people involved with larger organisations where over 200 litres of pesticides are stored.

One-stop training and assessment

LANTRA Awards' mowing equipment courses provide both training and assessment, so at the end of the course you know whether you have reached the LANTRA Awards standard. If you are successful you will be awarded a Certificate of Basic Training, and also a nationally recognised Skills ID Card stating your competence with mowing equipment, together with any other LANTRA Awards courses you may have already successfully completed.

Refresher training for experienced Operators

Refresher training courses are available for experienced operators in all skill areas. These courses aim to cover the same objectives and outcomes, but are of reduced duration. The duration of courses can also be varied where two or more courses are being run concurrently, or where there are reduced trainee numbers. Specific training, designed to suit particular client needs, can be arranged through SGM who will be pleased to discuss any detailed requirements.
